Do you also think immediately of wanking, playing with a dildo or masturbator when you hear the term solo play? Then you are probably not alone. However, there is another very hot game that you can use to get yourself really worked up, namely self-bondage. Admittedly, you have to be well versed in the art of self-bondage, but we’ll give you 10 tips on how to tie yourself up.

Hot contradiction in self-bondage

Those who enjoy bondage in the submissive role not only love the feeling of ropes on their skin, but also the thought of submitting, giving up control and having their freedom of movement restricted. Those who tie up, on the other hand, enjoy the feeling of power and dominance. Both aspects can be extremely arousing, also in terms of sexual fantasies.

In self-bondage, both roles merge into one, because when you tie yourself up, you take on both positions at the same time, so to speak. Sounds appealing, doesn’t it? It is precisely the contradiction inherent in self-bondage that makes this form of play, which, by the way, clearly belongs to the BDSM genre, so extremely exciting. Classic bondage is all about intense physical and psychological experiences. With self-bondage, you don’t need a partner for the same physical and mental experiences; you simply give them to yourself. Find out how it works best.

10 tips for self-bondage

At this point, it should be mentioned that there are also risks involved in self-bondage that you should be aware of and not underestimate. Only when you are sure that you can free yourself whenever you want can you concentrate on the moment and really let go during self-bondage.

To make this work, we have put together 10 tips to make the experience of self-bondage as low-risk as possible for you.

Tip 1: Have fun without alcohol and drugs!

When you are self-bonding, always make sure that you are clear-headed and can concentrate fully on yourself. If you consume alcohol or drugs while self-bonding, your willingness to take risks may increase while your inhibitions decrease, which can quickly become life-threatening if you panic when you are not in control of your senses!

Tip 2: Open fires are off limits!

As romantic as it may be to play with yourself in front of a fireplace, you should avoid such atmospheric details for safety reasons when it comes to self-bondage. Because where there is an open fire, something can always happen. Sparks fly, logs accidentally roll out of the fireplace onto the carpet and ignite it. Flames can spread extremely quickly and in such a case you won’t have enough time to free yourself from your bonds, extinguish the fire or get to safety.

Tip 3: Go easy on your back and knees!

For fans of self-bondage, it is extremely arousing to tie themselves up tightly. Especially when kneeling or when you have to twist your back in certain positions, a soft mat that doesn’t slip easily can be very helpful. With such a mat, you can largely avoid back and knee problems. In addition, there will be no embarrassing situations if you have to call an ambulance in the event of an injury, who then, in the worst case, finds you in a half-tied position and has to untie you first.

Tip 4: Rather shorter self-bondage sessions!

If you tie yourself up alone, it can be difficult to keep track of time because there is no one to make sure the session goes according to plan. Fans say that a maximum duration of 4 hours is sufficient to prevent boredom during self-bondage sessions. However, it is entirely up to you how long you set the session for. Choose the time frame that suits you and that is necessary to satisfy all your fantasies and needs.

Tip 5: Neck and self-bondage are mutually exclusive!

It doesn’t matter whether you use tapes, ropes or chains, a bondage involving the neck should remain an absolute taboo. It can cause breathing to be restricted, your movements can cause the bondage to tighten further and further, or in the worst case, you can lose consciousness or even suffocate. If you don’t want to do without a bondage around your neck, use wide latex or leather collars. With them you can create the feeling of bondage, but they cannot tighten further on their own.

Tip 6: Techniques with breathing restrictions are taboo!

Especially if you like masks but are still a beginner at self-bondage, you should stay away from all techniques that involve breath control. In this case, you can use masks that do not restrict breathing. You can also use gags with breathing tubes if you need the feeling. Always remember that the ultimate goal is to enjoy self-bondage, not to risk your life.

Tip 7: A release when self-bonding is mandatory!

Do you want to tie yourself up for a certain period of time, remain in this position and be able to release yourself again without any problems at the end? In order to be able to release yourself at all, you need a so-called release, i.e. a release option that allows you to free yourself from the bondage immediately after the end of the session. There are different release methods available to you, the best known of which is the ice release (e.g. freezing the end of a chain or a key). There is also a key safe, a watch release or a digital padlock. It is important that you never go into a self-bondage session unprepared.

Tip 8: An additional emergency release is useful!

What happens if your main release doesn’t work? It can happen. That’s why you need an emergency release for your own safety, but you should only use it in an emergency. As a golden rule, you can remember that one release is an absolute must, but you should always plan at least a second release. It’s best to have several release mechanisms ready in case you need to release quickly or because your main release has given up the ghost (think dead batteries in the clock release).

Tip 9: Safety is a must-have: check the release for functionality!

You need to be sure that the release methods you choose work reliably. Especially if you are using ice locks, you need to test beforehand exactly how long it takes for the ice to melt and release the end of the chain or the key. It is best to check all release methods several times to make sure they work safely.

Tip 10: Inform a trusted person about your self-bondage session!

In contrast to a classic bondage session, there is usually no other person in the immediate vicinity during self-bondage. So it’s good to have someone who at least knows about your preference. Inform this person that and when you are planning a self-bondage session. Ideally, give them a key to your apartment or tell them where they can find one if needed. Agree with them that you will contact them at a certain point in time after the self-bondage session. If you don’t, they will know that something is wrong and can help in an emergency.
