After eating comes the washing up – If your toy is not properly cleaned, it can quickly lead to bacterial-related complaints such as urinary tract infections and other nasty illnesses that no one needs in their life. In addition to the aforementioned obvious reasons why you should always spotless your toys after use, well-maintained sex toys not only look better in the long run, but also bring you more joy for a longer time. With a few simple but important tips, you’re on the safe side and don’t give germs, bacteria, and viruses a chance.
General information
As banal as it may sound, the first tip is to clean the used toys immediately after use and not to throw them somewhere in the corner with the intention of cleaning them at the next opportunity. As a rule, it usually happens later than intended, and in the meantime, bodily fluids have become a breeding ground for bacteria if they are not already dried up. So, what would otherwise be an uncomplicated and quick cleaning of your sex toys ends up becoming an unpleasant task. By the way, we also recommend cleaning your toy if it has not been used for an extended period.
Ways to clean your sex toys
Most toys simply need to be licked clean after use – no nonsense! Just clean dildos, plugs, masturbators, cock rings, etc. with lukewarm water and mild soap. It is also important to consider any grooves that your playmates may have.
If you want to be extra thorough, we recommend spraying your toy with a sex toy cleaner and then rinsing it under warm water after a few minutes. Important: Please never use aggressive disinfectants or harsh cleaning agents. Even if the name all-purpose cleaner suggests something similar, this can not only damage the material of your toys. But in the worst case also your mucous membranes the next time you use them.
Another method is cleaning in a saucepan – yes, you read that right, in a saucepan – this is also possible. If you want to sterilise your toys, simply put them in boiling water for a few minutes – but be careful: find out beforehand whether the materials of your sex toys can withstand this. Most silicone dildos or products made of glass or stainless steel will survive this procedure without any problems. But you should never put electronic toys in the pot.
After cleaning, you can dab your toys dry with a clean cloth. Then simply leave them to air dry completely.
Proper Care
Cleaning your sex toys alone is not always enough. High-tech toys like Cyberskin, TPE, or TPR should be treated with maintenance powder (“Renewal Powder”) after cleaning. This maintenance powder prevents dust, crumbs, lint, and hair from sticking to the surface. And also helps maintain the texture of the material, making your toy feel amazing when used again. By the way, you don’t need to wash off the powder. It can remain on your toy until the next use – you’ll definitely notice the difference.
Special Attention for Certain Materials
Spotless sex toys made from certain materials can be challenging. Jelly toys, for example, may feel incredible, but they come with a price. The problem with such ultra-flexible materials is that they are particularly porous. And can be difficult to get rid of bacteria and germs once they are present. Coarse-pored materials also require caution. As nasty pathogens can find their way into them – here, we strongly recommend using disinfecting toy cleaners.
