Toy-Cleaning Guide 2.0 – how to clean your sex toys properly

Toy-Cleaning – No matter how thoroughly you feel about yourself, toys always harbour the risk of bacteria build-up that can be transmitted during use. It gets even worse if you share your toys with your lover. You’re not worried because you rinse your dildo under running water after each use and “clean” it? Let us tell you that this is often not enough. We’ll tell you how to clean your sex toys really thoroughly and protect yourself from infection.

Clean your vibrator properly – it’s so easy

Such a vibrator brings a lot of fun for the prostate, but harbours the potential for infection if not cleaned properly. A waterproof model makes your job easier, other vibrators require a little more caution so that you don’t damage the electrics.

Is your device waterproof? Then proceed as follows when cleaning:

  1. Put an antibacterial soap in your sink and place the vibrator in it
  2. Grab a cloth and soap the humming helper thoroughly.
  3. Remove the water and rinse your toy thoroughly with clean water.
  4. Before you put it in the drawer, let it air dry to prevent mould from forming.

Pro tip: Use a sextoy cleaner to prevent bacteria from having a chance. It doesn’t replace thorough rinsing with soap, but it will keep you germ-free and safe between two play sessions.

If your vibrator is not waterproof, you need a cloth with warm soapy water (antibacterial). Use this to wash your toy thoroughly and avoid the buttons and openings (charging socket etc.). Here, too, it is important that you allow your electric lover to air dry.

TPE, jelly or PVC dildos – basic wash cycle for the artificial cock

It feels so good when the thick TPE cock penetrates your arse and takes care of you. Materials such as TPE or jelly have the disadvantage that the surface of dildos is porous. You can’t see these tiny holes with the naked eye, but bacteria can find them. Thorough disinfection is virtually impossible, as the germs become so deeply embedded that you can no longer get them out. The best way to avoid such unhygienic situations is to put a rubber over it when using it. Afterwards, clean your dildo thoroughly with soap, just as you would with a waterproof vibrator. Feel free to spray on a toy cleaner to remove surface bacteria.

Tip: Choose your next dildo from silicone. The surface is less sensitive and less porous, which promotes sterility.

Silicone toys – the perfect hygiene for your sexual pleasure

Silicone toys are more expensive, but very safe and, above all, non-porous. For models without a motor, you have numerous cleaning methods that ensure hygiene and cleanliness. The classic method here is also soap and water – you immerse your toy, scrub it thoroughly and then leave it to air dry. Finally, spray it with a toy cleaner and it’s ready for another horny round.

Although silicone does not have a porous texture, it does have a small disadvantage – it absorbs odours. This means that if you regularly water your anal plug, its odour will eventually be ruined. Thanks to the material, you can simply boil the plug out. Don’t necessarily use grandma’s soup pot, but get yourself a small saucepan that you only use for this purpose.

And this is how it’s done:

  1. Bring the water to the boil on the hob and slide your toy in.
  2. Wait ten minutes, your plug (or any other silicone toy) may now boil bubbling.
  3. Take a wooden spoon and turn the toy occasionally so that each side is exposed.
  4. Pour off the water and rinse the plugs and co. with cold, clear water.
  5. Now clean the toys again with soap and leave them to air dry.

For silicone toys, bleach is also suitable as a Toy-Cleaning agent, especially if you use the toys together with your lover. Remember that such methods are only suitable for silicone, not for TPE or other (more sensitive) materials.

How it works:

  1. Pour water into a bowl (lukewarm) and add one part bleach (e.g. 5 litres of water, 0.5 litres of bleach).
  2. Put your toys in the bleach for about a quarter of an hour and then take them out again (with grill tongs).
  3. Now pour soapy water into the basin and put the toys back in for another five minutes.
  4. Scrub them thoroughly under running water and leave them to air dry.

Important: Bleach is great for Toy-Cleaning, but has no place on your arse or cock. So remember to wash the toys thoroughly to avoid any residue.

Clean glass toys – the precious playthings thoroughly

Do you use cool glass toys? Then you shouldn’t have any problems Toy-Cleaning them. Borosilicate glass is usually used, which is particularly hard and stable. Whether you can cook a glass Toy-Cleaning depends on how it is made. If the material has been specially tempered, it will withstand washing in a saucepan without any problems. If it is not hardened, it could break in the worst case. Thanks to its texture, however, boiling is not absolutely necessary; thorough cleaning under running water with soap and subsequent disinfection is sufficient. As with silicone, bleach is also suitable for disinfection. You proceed in the same way as with your silicone toys, one part bleach to ten parts water and a subsequent disinfection time of 15 minutes is sufficient.

Masturbators and Fleshlights – scrubbed thoroughly, will last longer

Such an ass-look masturbator feels damn authentic and horny, but has its flaws. If you squirt in it with relish, thorough cleaning is absolutely essential. With most masturbators you can go to work with soap without any worries, but not with the Original Fleshlight. The material is super-sensitive and is not suitable for cleaning agents. Your only options here are water and the cleaning spray offered by the manufacturer. Other masturbators made of TPE or plastic can be brought back to a high shine with soap and water. It is important that you allow the inside (if removable) to dry thoroughly. Mould forms very quickly and this can be really unpleasant for your cock.

Conclusion: Toy cleaning made easy – hygienic and simple

When you’re having a great time with your dildo, you don’t think about “afterwards”, of course. But cleaning is still important, because you want to enjoy your toy for as long as possible. This not only contributes to your health, but also increases the durability of your toy. Just think of the procedure like brushing your teeth. If you skip it all the time, bacteria and germs destroy the surfaces of your Toy-Cleaning and the fun is over.
